Welcome to the blog for Colgate University's interdisciplinary course on food. This is the place to keep up with what students in the course are experiencing in their work at Common Thread Community Farm and through their everyday encounters with food.

Curtis BBQ

The other night I went to Frank's Farm Fresh night (I think that's what it's called?) which was surprisingly very good! It goes to show that dining hall food can be good too if you just add to it a few of the right ingredients.

One of the dishes Frank was serving on this special occasion was barbecue pork. This in turn reminded me of my favorite barbecue place: Curtis' BBQ in Putney, Vermont. Curtis is a man from Georgia who has been preparing BBQ for decades, but he only sells barbecue during the summer months. Curtis BBQ is a must see if you are passing through Vermont and I highly recommend that if the opportunity presents itself you all go!

The venue is unconventional. Instead of a roadside stand or restaurant, Curtis owns two old school buses. He converted the interiors into a kitchen and register. As a customer you don't actually get to go into the school buses, but instead you can walk up to the window and order. All around there is a nice sitting area with plenty of pic-nic tables. The best part about Curtis BBQ is his homemade bbq sauce, and the fact that everything is cooked over a woodfire. Here is his website so check him out!
