Foods of New York

I knew Central/Upstate New York had its quirks (particularly in some of its food options), but really… how does a “garbage plate” sound appealing to anybody? Mozzarella sticks with raspberry sauce!? Maybe I’m not being very fair—there are lots of meals I’ve been hesitant about in the past that turned out to be absolutely delicious.

I’ve seen articles on the regionalization of food icons on a broader scale, but never anything specifically within the State of New York. This map shows some interesting information about the variety of food innovations New York has developed, as well as the infamous pop/soda divide (Sadly, Hamilton apparently hasn’t found its own “Open-Face Calzone,” but surely with enough time, Slices will make its way on the map). Enjoy!

Bonus: a beautiful infographic on the history and uses of milk!
