Welcome to the blog for Colgate University's interdisciplinary course on food. This is the place to keep up with what students in the course are experiencing in their work at Common Thread Community Farm and through their everyday encounters with food.

Why Finals Week is Great

When I walk through the doors into Case Library, the stress, exhaustion, and concentration in the air is almost almost palpable. Amidst the fervent typing, page flipping and pencil tapping, I sit with one singular thought: where can I get some free food?

The truth is that I love finals week. I love camping out in the library for days on end, I love the sudden freedom from class meetings, but most of all I love the free food.

Of course, free food on campus is not exclusively offered between the 13-20th of december. Brown Bags and department social hours are certainly prime occasions to grub out on Colgate's dime (see the photo below of fellow classmates and myself enjoying free pizza in the basement of the chapel), however the abundance, variety, and publicity of food during finals week rivals no other. Here are just a few of the options in the bounty of free food offered by Colgate during this wonderful time:

1)On the eve of the last Colgate day of 2013 chipwiches were offered at midnight in Case Library (it already passed, but still it was free chipwiches!)

2)December 15- Greek Food Study break at Donovan's Pub: 6:00-7:00

3)December 17- Indian Food Study Break at the O'Connor Campus Center: 6:30

These study breaks are the perfect way to prevent needing to do any more grocery shopping for the rest of the semester, so be sure to capitalize on this exclusive offer and every option you have to make every cent you pay for Colgate tuition worth the while.

Happy Studying everyone!
